Cartilage ear piercing with the Inverness System is just as gentle as a lobe piercing. </p> <p> <b>Q. </b><b>How is the ear cartilage different from the earlobe?</b> A. Cartilage is the strong, flexible tissue located in the upper portion of the ear. Cartilage differs from the earlobe primarily in that it has a limited blood supply. We provide a diagram that shows where it is safe to use the Inverness System to pierce ear cartilage and the earlobe. </p> </div> <h3>Keloids</h3> <div class="level3"> <p> <b>Q. </b><b>What are keloids?</b> A. Keloids are lumps of scar tissue that can be felt when compressing the earlobe. <b>Q. </b><b>Can you pierce a customer who has keloids?</b> A. Never pierce a customer who has keloids. Refer to a physician. </p> </div> <h3>Earlobe Piercing</h3> <div class="level3"> <p> If slight discomfort exists, check if the clutch is too close to the skin, pull it back to ensure proper air circulation. Continue cleansing with Ear Care Antiseptic (increase frequency to 3-4 times a day), the condition may correct itself. If condition persists or deteriorates, remove earring and consult a doctor. </p> <p> Cartilage Piercing Since cartilage area has a minimal blood supply, an infection in the cartilage can quickly become serious. If condition persists more than 24 hours, seek medical advice immediately. </p> </div> <h3>Prevent Early Closure of Holes</h3> <div class="level3"> <ul> <li class="level1"> Earrings must be worn continuously during the whole healing period. 6 weeks for ear lobe piercing and 12 weeks for cartilage piercing.</li> <li class="level1"> Protect the Hole during Healing Period 1.</li> <li class="level1"> Stay away from potential contaminants, e.g. use another ear to receive a call</li> <li class="level1"> Take extra care when brushing, washing hair or removing clothing over head, so that earrings don’t get caught.</li> <li class="level1"> Exercise care when participating in sports to prevent injury to the ears.</li> <li class="level1"> Avoid using perfume, hair sprays or any irritating chemicals around the holes.</li> <li class="level1"> Do not remove or replace earrings before the end of the healing period as it may cause injury to the hole and result in infection.</li> </ul> </div> <h3>Prevent Bacterial Infection</h3> <div class="level3"> <p> 1.Cleanse: Twice a day squeeze several drops of ear care antiseptic to cleanse the skin around the hole and the earring post. Wash hands before handling the ears or earrings </p> <p> 2. Turn: Turn earrings twice a day by holding onto the clutch, this helps to prevent the post sticking to the newly grown skin. </p> <p> 3.Check: Check earring back should be firmly attached to the post. Earrings must fit loosely for proper air circulation and proper healing </p> </div> <h3>Care of the Hole after the Healing Period</h3> <div class="level3"> <p> 1. Once the holes are formed, you will need to wear earrings continuously for a period of time to prevent hole closure </p> <ul> <li class="level1"> <b>Earlobe piercing</b>: for the first 12 months, do not go longer than 24 hours without earrings.</li> <li class="level1"> <b>Cartilage piercing:</b> for the first 24 months wear the earrings continuously unless you take it out for cleansing purpose.</li> </ul> <p> 2. To maintain the hole in good hygienic condition, cleanse the earrings, posts and clutches with ear care antiseptic before wearing and after removal. </p> <p> 3. Wearing heavy earring accessories for long hours should be avoided to keep the hole delicately small. </p> </div> <h3>After Care</h3> <div class="level3"> <p> <b>Q. How long does it take for an ear piercing to heal?</b> </p> <p> A. The average healing time is 6 weeks for an earlobe piercing and 12 weeks for a cartilage piercing. Inverness recommends that you leave your piercing earrings in and follow your aftercare instructions for 6 weeks after an earlobe piercing and 12 weeks after a cartilage piercing. </p> <p> <b>Q. Is it OK to change my earrings or take them out during the healing period?</b> </p> <p> A. You should only switch into new earrings after the healing period: 6 weeks for an earlobe piercing and 12 weeks for a cartilage piercing. Newly pierced ears are very sensitive and require special care and attention. If you take your earrings out for any length of time during the healing period, the holes may close or you may find it to be very difficult to re-insert earrings into a piercing hole that has not fully healed. </p> <p> <b>Q. I</b><b>s ear piercing very easily to cause the allergy?</b> </p> <p> A. Nickel allergy is one of the most common causes of allergic contact dermatitis — an itchy rash that appears when your skin touches a usually harmless substance. Nickel allergy is commonly associated with earrings and other jewelry. But nickel can be found in many everyday items — from coins to necklace clasps, from watchbands to eyeglass frames. If you have a nickel allergy, we should select and purchase ”does not have nickel” (NickelFree) or ”the nickel content conforms to the standard of security” (Nickel Compliant) piercing earrings. </p> <p> <b>Q. </b><b>Doesn't ear piercing hurt?</b> </p> <p> A. The Inverness Ear Piercing System is fast and very gentle.
